In 1987 The Lycans family purchased a small cable system in Glen Hayes, WV.  This was the beginning of Lycom Communications.  They moved the company to Louisa, Kentucky in 1992.  Although not called Lycom at the time, Greentree of Kentucky acquired the older pre-existing cable system that was already in Louisa.  The family rebuilt the cable system in Louisa to handle more channels.

Then in 2000, what was still Greentree became the first Internet Service Provider to offer lower priced high speed Internet to their customers.  Then in 2001 Greentree changed its name to the company name that we know today, Lycom Communications.  Lycom was and still is a family owned and operated business.
